The International English Language Testing System (IELTS) is the most popular proficiency test for the English language, first introduced in 1980 AD. IELTS test scores are recognized as proof of English language ability at thousands of universities, colleges, and workplaces around the world. 

IELTS Academic and IELTS General Training are the two types of IELTS tests. IELTS Academic is the type of test that targets those individuals who are more into undergraduate and postgraduate programs in foreign countries, while ILETS General Training is the test designed for candidates applying for programs below the degree level or for work-related purposes. The IELTS General testing scores show the English language proficiency necessary for everyday communication. The IELTS Academic and IELTS General Testing are divided into four sessions of testing namely, listening, reading, writing, and speaking. Both the types have similar listening and speaking whereas reading and writing differ in both types of IELTS tests.
